The 65 5 SQUIRREL is the ideal machine for mango plantations, Industrial hire fleets, plantation timber and country councils for high pruning because of its very robust construction and many features.
The 65 5 model is designed primarily for plantation timber pruning and picking.
Features
Superior Stability
SQUIRRELs 65 5 & 80 5 have superior stability with a smooth ride over rough terrain due to the wide adjustable wheel track, providing significantly greater operator comfort. When the cage is 6.5m high and the drive wheels are fully extended to 3m wide and one wheel drives over a 140mm high obstacle the cage will only sway by 300mm. If the drive wheels were at 2.3m wide under the same conditions the cage sway would be increased to 400mm.
Mobility
The high king pin post allows the boom length to be significantly shorter and results in greater Squirrel mobility. With the SQUIRREL 65 5 the overall length with cage down is 4.9m with the king pin post height being 2.7m. If the king pin height was 1.5m high the overall length would need to be 6.5m to reach the same height. This additional 1.6m length does make a machine very cumbersome.
 Drive Wheel Settings
The 65 5 & 80 5 SQUIRRELs have a quick adjustable drive wheel track with three settings - 1.8m, 2.4m or 3m wide. When using the 1.8m and 2.4m settings the maximum cage height of the SQUIRREL is limited by safety switches. When the wheels are at the 1.8m wide setting the SQUIRREL can be transported on most car trailers.
Drive Wheel Retraction
Adjusting the wheel track is very quick and foolproof, taking only
several minutes. Operate the special jack provided to lift up one
wheel, remove one locating pin and swing the wheel to the required width - refit the self aligning locating pin. Or use the optional extra Hydraulic Wheel Shift.
Planetary Drive Wheel Hubs
Drive wheel planetary hubs are specially made for Crendon Machinery and feature
- large 8:1 reduction gearbox with an integrated hydraulic motor and incorporate fail safe multi-disc wet brakes as
standard.
- These brakes work when driving down a slope and eliminates creep and overrun.
- Hubs have quick spring loaded disengage freewheeling as standard.
- large tapered wheel bearings & cogs; the hub is twice the weight of our competitors.
- Special seals on the brake piston for long life.
- Custom made hydraulic motors are fitted to give very high torque at low speed with 200 bar seals.
- SQUIRRELs are fitted with special valving that give a soft start and stop, greatly reducing the jerky effect that other cherry pickers have.
Fully enclosed engine compartment
he bonnets are made from heavy steel and will not break with fallen or overhanging branches. For security, the bonnets are lockable and swing up with a gas strut to give easy access for servicing.
A Vanguard v-twin cylinder 16hp or 21hp petrol engine is standard or optional extra Kubota 3 cylinder water cooled 23hp diesel is available. The exhaust is extended and piped low down to the rear of the Squirrel away from workers. Engine auto stops when oil pressure is low.
E-Stop and Start switch, reset circuit breaker are accessible without lifting the bonnet.
A sealed enclosure protects all the electrical components.
Powerful Hydraulic System
Hydraulics have the capacity to handle steep and adverse conditions. The system is protected by a very large fine 10 micron suction filter. Each motor hose has a relief valve fitted to eliminate pressure spikes.
Soft Drive. Special valving is fitted that gives a soft start and stop, this allows the operator to drive safely.
The engine base is supported on springs to eliminate vibration.
There are 3 trays inside the engine bay to store tools, wet weather clothing, draw-bar, etc.

Hydraulic Three Speed
Three speed is a standard feature which operates independently from the variable engine rpm, enabling the operator to select a wide range of speeds for faster operation and traveling.
 Dual caster wheels
Two independent large diameter caster wheels with an additional horizontal pivot provide a very smooth ride over uneven terrain or street kerbs. As one wheel mounts a kerb the other stays at the original level. Effectively the height of the kerb is halved. This allows the operator to comfortably work safely and quickly. These wheels also greatly reduce the possibility of bogging because of their independent rolling action. Standard on 50 5 & 65 5 models. Horizontal pivot has a large self lubricating replaceable bush.
 Heavy duty towing
A long heavy duty draw bar with ball hitch is a standard component on the SQUIRRELs. This draw bar is stored inside the engine compartment when not in use. The long draw bar and large diameter caster wheels provides smooth safe towing. For long distance transport it is recommended that the SQUIRREL be transported on a trailer - due to excessive tyre wear and legal speed limitations.
 Easy lifting
A single lift point is standard on all 50 5, 65 5 and 80 5 models. It provides simple, very safe and balanced lifting for articulated front-end loaders or cranes to load and unload from trucks.
True all-terrain
All models are true all-terrain machines. Each SQUIRREL has evenly spaced and loaded large diameter drive and caster wheels with a powerful two speed hydraulic system enabling them to negotiate undulating terrain.
 Safe In & Out of Cage
The SQUIRRELs Cage: is safe and easy to enter and exit - no bending and twisting under hand rails. It is automatically closed and latched with 2 separate latches. As the rear seat belt is attached, getting in and out is safe and fast. To un-latch it requires 2 fingers to lift two latches, then push back. The latch handles are recessed in the back inside corner.
The Squirrel gate is fully Australian Standards & OHS safety compliant.
